What is a Solar Farm

A solar farm is a large-scale installation of solar panels spread over a wide area to generate electricity. Solar farms are designed to produce substantial amounts of energy, typically to supply power to the electric grid. They are often built on large parcels of land, including agricultural or low-grade land, to take advantage of available space and sunlight.

At Ingenstat we can deliver full turnkey services for both:

Utility-Scale Solar Farms: Utility scale farms are larger installations, often generating 1,000,000s of kWh of electricity. The power they produce goes directly to the grid, supplying energy for commercial, industrial, or residential use across a wide area.

Community Solar Farms: Community farms are smaller in scale and allow multiple individuals or businesses to "subscribe" to a share of the solar farm’s output. This is ideal for people who may not be able to install solar panels on their property but still want to benefit from solar energy.

Development & Investment

Solar farms have minimal environmental impact and are typically granted a 25-year temporary planning consent, meaning they do not require a permanent change of land use. They can coexist with agricultural activities like grazing sheep or poultry and support set-aside land initiatives and biodiversity goals. If necessary, a solar farm can be fully removed, leaving no lasting trace on the land.

The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) offers significant encouragement for renewable energy projects and the majority of UK planning applications for solar parks have been granted to date. However, the potential for and cost of connection to the 11kV or 33kV electricity supply grids is a key factor in site and project viability.

If you are looking for an investor to develop a solar farm on your land, Ingenstat can identify suitable investors and carry out all the relevant development work for you.
